Sunnies Cafe opened its second branch in SM Megamall last week, just around three months after the launch of its first store along Bonifacio Hight Street in Taguig. The cafe serves salad, pasta, entrées, desserts and brunches. The dishes are European inspired, mostly French and Italian.

We visited the BGC Branch and here’s a quick look on their dishes.

Sunnies Cafe’s Must-Try Dishes

Sunnies Cafe marked their recommended dishes with a heart icon. We tried four of these: one pasta, two entrées and a milkshake.

Sunnies Cafe - Spicy Pomodoro
Spicy Pomodoro

One of their must-try pasta dishes is the Spicy Pomodoro (Php 270.00, good for one). It’s linguini tossed in thick tomato sauce with mixed seafood and anchovies and hint of lemon. I like how the seafood, especially the shrimps, were cooked. I love the balance of the spiciness and tanginess coming from the sauce and lemon.

Sunnies Cafe - Butcher's Steak
Butcher’s Steak

Another dish that the Cafe recommends is the Butcher’s Steak (Php 480.00). It’s sous vide hanger steak with french beans, roasted marble potatoes and scallion brown rice on side. The beef was sous vide, meaning it was placed inside an airtight plastic bag and placed in water bath usually for 3 to 4 days. I really enjoyed the tenderness. However, even with the gravy, the taste was ordinary. It’s not bad for a steak but not the best either.

Pan-Seared Miso Salmon
Pan-seared Miso Salmon

Pan-seared Miso Salmon (Php 470.00) is another recommended entrée from the menu. It’s a miso-glazed salmon topped on mashed potato with salad and scallion brown rice on side. The mashed potato beneath the salmon is one of the most flavorful mashed potato I’ve ever had. Both the flavors of the gravy and salmon were infused in it. The salmon was an absolute awesomeness. It was juicy and has great texture.

Kimye Milkshake
Kimye (Cookies and Cream Milkshake)

Have a glass of Kimye (Php 190.00) for dessert. It’s cookies and cream ice cream milkshake mixed with nutella, crushed oreos, whipped cream and malted milk. One word for it – heaven!

The Verdict

Food was great overall but also expensive. However, I think the methods that they used to cook the dishes aimed to justify the pricing. It was basically a fine-dine restaurant pretending to be a casual one. The food were presented nicely as well – really like a fine dining. It’s worth every space on your Instagram account. I haven’t even mentioned the interiors and the ambience of the restaurant yet. It was modern, cozy and relaxing.
