Five years ago, when I was still working at an international company at McKinley Hill in Taguig, I used to visit the Razon’s located at the One World Square and have a good Halo-halo for dessert. I remember my friends eating Pansit Luglug and declaring their fondness over it with every bite.

So, yes, Razon’s of Guagua is famous for their amazing Halo-halo and their delicious Pansit Luglug. However, as of my last visit, I can claim that we can also add one more to that list – Caldereta.

Razon’s of Guagua: The Caldereta

Few days ago, I had a chance to visit the recently launched SM East Ortigas in Santa Lucia, Pasig City and there I saw a branch of Razon’s of Guagua. I learned that they are offering new menu items like Beef Caldereta and Bistig and so I dined in.

The Beef Caldereta (Php 135 solo; Php 260 for sharing) was fantastic. It was slightly sweet, slightly spicy and subtly milky. The beef was so easy to eat because it was so soft. I also enjoyed the fried potato strips mixed into it. The sauce was perfect with a cup (or two) of rice.

Their Caldereta was incredibly good that I actually went back to Razon’s (Silver City branch) two days ago just to have another plate of it.

Bistig is just the Kapampangan term for Tagalog’s Bistek. Razon’s Bistig (Php 260.00) was also great. I find the sauce a little saltier than I expected but it got good as soon as I mixed it with rice. The meat was as tender and good as the meat in the Caldereta.

Razon’s of Guagua also serves Chicken & Pork Asado and Lechon Kawali – both comes with a free glass of iced tea.

The Lechon Kawali (Php 210.00) was good. It was crispy and tasty but also ordinary. On the other hand, the Chicken and Pork Asado (Php 215.00) tasted more like Afritada than Asado, but still great.

The best way to end a Razon’s visit? Of course, it’s Halo-halo. Their Halo-halo (Php 115.00) was famous because of it’s simplicity with the ingredients, finely-crushed milky ice and the awesome leche flan on top.
